Offline activation
Activate Protolith Studio on a computer that never connects to the internet, with a request file and a license file.
Use offline activation when the computer running Protolith Studio has no internet access at all, for example on an isolated lab network. You need a second computer with internet for one step.

1. Save a request file
On the offline computer, open the activation window (on first start, or License → Change license) and go to the Offline tab. Select 1. Save request (.plreq) and save the file, for example to a USB drive.
The request file belongs to this computer and this Windows user. Each request can be used once; if you save a new one, use the newest.
2. Turn it into a license file
On a computer with internet, open the offline activation page at protolithstudio.com/account/offline, sign in with your e-mail (or enter your license key), upload the .plreq file and download the license file (.pllic).
3. Open the license file
Back on the offline computer, select 3. Open license (.pllic) on the Offline tab and choose the downloaded file. The app activates immediately.
Renewing
A Free license file is valid for 30 days. Before it ends, repeat the three steps; the License page shows the remaining days and has an Offline license file button for this.
Common messages
- “This is not a Protolith Studio license file (.pllic).” The file is damaged or of another type. Download it again.
- “Create a request file (.plreq) on this computer first, then import the file made for it.” Save a request on this computer before opening a license file.
- “This license file answers an older request. Upload the latest .plreq and use the new file.” You saved a newer request after this one; use the license file made for the newest request.
- “This license file was made for another computer.” Each license file only works on the computer (and Windows user) that saved the request.
- “This license file has already expired. Request a new one.” Repeat the three steps.
- “Offline license files are not available for this plan.” Pro and Team need an internet connection once every 30 days instead.
